A dozen new concerts have been added by Roger Waters to his forthcoming fall tour. The former front man for Pink Floyd will be performing “The Wall,” the band’s 1979 album, in its entirety.
For many of the markets the new dates are second or third nights, including Los Angeles, Montreal, New York City, Boston, Chicago and Toronto. On May 14 tickets will be going on sale for the date in Philadelphia. The additional shows in Anaheim, CA, Los Angeles and Chicago are going on sale on May 17, while the rest of the shows are already on sale.
According to a recent press release, “The Wall” album has been only performed previously 31 times in its entirety. Most of the performances were by Pink Floyd on their 1980-81 tour to support the album, and then in 1990 with Waters and a cast of all-stars performing it to commemorate the demolition of Berlin Wall.
Water in his press statement said, this new “The Wall” production is an attempt at drawing comparisons and to shed some light on our current predicament. It is dedicated to innocence that was lost over the years. During Waters’ 2007-08 tour he played the 1973 classic album from his former band, “The Dark Side of the Moon,” in its entirety.
In a recent Associated Press interview, Waters said the upcoming tour would go forward without participation from David Gilmour, former band mate. He stated that the longtime guitarist of the band was approached about being involved on the tour, but was not at all interested in any Pink Floyd projects.
All four former Pink Floyd classic lineup members performed together at the Live 8 benefit concert of Bob Geldorf’s in 2005 held in London. However after the concert, Gilmour and Waters went on their separate ways.
The latest rock solo album from Waters is “Amused to Death,” released in 1992. He also released a three act opera, “Ca Ira,” centered around the French Revolution, in 2005 on the classical music label of Sony’s.
