After a sweeping success in South America, Roger Waters’ The Wall Live tour returns to North America this spring for another round of sold-out stadium and arena performances.

In South America, The Wall helped establish Roger Waters as a record holder for having the most number of sold-out stadium shows in the continent, after performing to a whooping 750,000 attendees in Chile, Brazil and Argentina’s River State Stadium in Buenos Aires, where he broke the record posted by the Rolling Stones after The Wall was staged for 9 nights, compared the Stones’ 5 outings.

Beginning this weekend, this audibly transporting and visually stimulating concept concert mounts a 41-night outing all across North America, starting off with a 2-nighter at the Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico on April 27 and 28, followed by a stop in Houston, TX’s Toyota Center on May 1st to kick things off stateside. The US leg will also include stops in New York’s Yankee Stadium and at the Los Angeles Coliseum in Hollywood. The leg will conclude with a July 14 show in Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park. For tickets and more information, log onto Ticketmaster and the Live Nation websites.

Dubbed as the “best arena show ever” by the New York Post, The Wall Live tour is a visual and aural spectacle that speaks volumes and transcends time and generations that even younger music junkies relate well to the show and the concept album’s message. The Philadelphia Inquirer also writes, “The Wall Live is flawless. Everyone should see it once before they die.”

Even after 30 years, the issue of ownership over the Falkland Islands between Argentina and England has and seems like will never subside. And with celebrities like Sean Penn, Jane Fonda, Morrissey and Kanye West supporting the Argentines’ claim over the disputed South American archipelago, another celebrity has apparently weighed in on the matter, or so we think, as Roger Waters tries to clean his hands off some remarks he dropped in Santiago, Chile during a press conference:

“The sound of sabres rattling is rising again. I am not a politician or a diplomat, and have no ready solution, but I am convinced it’s time to sue for peace and seek a compromise, not push for victory. At the end of the day what really matters is that not one more drop of blood is shed on the altar of the imperial aspirations of long dead kings.”

While the last statement seemed harmless and even tried to send a noble message, it was another comment he made to another Chilean broadcaster where he claimed that the Falkland Islands “should be Argentine” that caught media attention. And if that wasn’t enough to draw the ire of his native England over the issue, he also added that “the tragedy of 1982, when 900 young lives were lost was that it was caused by the folly of two political leaders, Galtieri and Thatcher, who were both losing their grip on the reins of power and used the conflict as a distraction. It was described at the time by a Chilean commentator as being like, ‘Two bald men fighting over a comb’.”

“The history of the Islands is the story of two opposing colonial monarchies England and Spain batting the territory back and forth back in the day when Empire building was de-riguer,” the Pink Floyd front man further explained.

The issue of ownership of Falkland Islands, which is currently under British rule with the settlers willfully proclaiming themselves as British, is once again a hot topic since this year marks the 30th year anniversary of the two-month long British-Argentine war in 1982, which the British won against the invading Argentine forces who retreated after a bloody battle that resulted to military – on both sides – and civilian casualties.

Meanwhile, Waters arrived in Buenos Aires earlier this week as part of his ongoing The Wall Live world tour, where he is slated to perform in the Argentine capital for nine dates (all sold out dates). He is also expected to make a courtesy call to the country’s head of state, President Cristina Fernandez de Kircher.

The 7th Orange Amplification Classic Rock n’ Roll of Honor, or Classic Rock Awards, brought together the best and most legendary rock performers and artists of all time last night, November 9, at the Roundhouse in Camden. It continues to distinguish itself as the most prestigious music event in the industry with only the best in the business handing out citations and lifetime achievements to their fellow artists who are of the same esteemed stature.

The event featured rock music icons Jeff Beck, Roger Waters and Lemmy as the night’s biggest winners. Master guitarist Jeff Beck went home with this year’s Living Legend Award. Past recipients of the award are Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop and Rush. Beck received a standing ovation as he shared the stage with another rock icon, Queen’s Roger Taylor who presented the award to him. Roger Waters’ critically acclaimed and sold-out ‘The Wall Live’ tour was named Event of the Year, while Lemmy’s eponymous film bagged the Film/DVD Award.

Famed guitarist Steve Winwood, iconic rock act Queen, Foo Fighters, The Who and Manic Street Preachers were also among the night’s winners. While Joss Stone and Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders performed alongside Jeff Beck.

The event was hosted by Kiss front man and reality TV star Gene Simmons, who was almost at a loss for words when asked for his reaction on hosting the major gig.
“A privilege and an honor wouldn’t cover it.,” he said. “For me this will be a memory of a lifetime. Signed by the God Of Thunder.”

The 2011 Classic Rock Awards was co-presented by currencies.co.uk.

After a successful run in 2010 and 2011, Roger Waters’ ‘The Wall Live’ tour will return to the US and Canada in 2012 on what shapes to be the tour’s last leg. The 36-city trek will now include larger venues such as stadiums and arenas to accommodate the show’s lavish set designs, intricate effects and humongous props.

In September, Waters talked to Rolling Stone about his plans for the tour’s new and probably, more spectacular leg. “We’re going to be projecting over 140 yards. So now it’s going to be 1,500 pixels wide. We’ve done light tests at Fenway Park and Wrigley Field and Yankee Stadium just to see what the ambient light is like. And it’s fine. It works.”

The North American leg will kick off in Houston, TX on May 1st, 2012 and wrapping up on July 14th in Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park. Other stops included in the itinerary are San Francisco’s AT&T Park on May 11, the BC Place in Vancouver on May 26, Chicago’s Wrigley Field on June 8, and the Rogers Center in Toronto on June 23. The complete itinerary, which will be announced in detail later, will also include other cities from previous legs where the supposed shows were either canceled or postponed.

Joining the iconic Pink Floyd front man for this leg of the tour are guitarists GE Smith, Snowy White and Dave Kilminster, keyboardists Joe Carin and Harry Waters, drummer Graham Broad, and second and backing vocalists Robbie Wyckoff, Jon Joyce, Pat Lennon, Mark Lennon and Kipp Lennon.

‘The Wall’ is Pink Floyd’s critically acclaimed concept album which was released in 1979. The double album has been performed by Roger Waters and the rest of the band for only 29 times, with Waters performing the concept record as a solo gig in Berlin in 1990, in commemoration of the historic tearing down of the Berlin Wall.

The rock opera was conceived by Waters as his very own back story, chronicling the circumstances that shaped his personality, outlook and life as a whole, which included his father’s passing. The re-imagination and re-launch of the concept production in the form of an extensive world tour, where he plays the entirety of the records at every stop, was his way to include listeners who shared the same story and point of view in the record’s vision, message and universality.

Pink Floyd front man and principal songwriter Roger Waters is currently swimming in the success of his ‘The Wall’ world tour, named after the band’s concept album released in the early ‘80s. Though it was never billed as a Pink Floyd reunion show, it still had Pink Floyd fans swarming over theatres to hear Waters perform the album from cover to cover, coupled with elaborate imageries consisting of lighting and visual effects and a giant wall to depict the album’s message. The tour will conclude in less than a year, so fans and critics are now wondering if Waters will tread on a second leg and if so, when.

If his interview with Rolling Stone is any indication, it seems like ‘The Wall’ may rise again in a year or two, and he’s planning to put up a larger ‘Wall’ on a larger venue – or venues, that is.

“We want to base the tour around Saturday nights in baseball stadiums. As we speak, I’m at my office working on an outdoor version of the show,” Rogers said, also adding that a second leg would not only let him tap outdoor venues but other cities like Austin which are not included in his current US itinerary.

He also detailed how bigger and more vast the stage props and special effects are going to be for the proposed ‘outdoor version’. “We’re going to be projecting over 140 yards, so now it’s going to be 1,500 pixels wide. We’ve done light tests and Fenway Park and Wrigley Field and Yankee Stadium just to see what the ambient light is like. And it’s fine. It works. We’ve taken part of the Wall and the projectors into those three places.”

If plans for an outdoor ‘The Wall’ push through, it might be the last for Waters as he intends to slow the big concert bandwagon down. “I’m not sure I want to go out and do the greatest hits again. Which just sucks,” he tells Rolling Stone. In fact, he plans to go on a hiatus immediately after wrapping up the tour by summer next year.

While it seems like performing might take a back seat after ‘The Wall’ closes, the rock n’ roll veteran sets his eyes on other music gigs. “What I love to do is theater in a rock & roll context. I think if I did any more in the future, it might well be smaller,” he says.

Roger Waters and Shakira have jointly purchased a $16-million island in the Bahamas named Bonds Cay, and they’re planning to develop it into a luxury Caribbean vacation hotspot not only for the wealthy, but also for both seasoned and promising artists, who are looking for an opportunity to showcase their works amidst a sea of deep-pocketed vacationers. As what media outlets have dubbed it, the ‘She Wolf’ singer and the Pink Floyd front man are intending to “reinvent the concept of tourism”.

“It’s not about having 200 speedboats and an 18-hole golf course. I would say it is an explosion of the senses. It’s a concept more related to art and culture,” says Arturo Rubinstein, who’s also an investor in the newly acquired property. Bonds Cay is envisioned by its investors and owners to give rise to high-end hotels, private beaches and seaside homes, and as mentioned, a haven for artists who could use the Caribbean’s stunning and breathtaking scenery for inspiration.

The idea of acquiring Bonds Cay was presented to Shakira and Waters in 2006. Back then, Shakira’s former boyfriend, Argentine Antonio de la Rua, and New York based financial firm Guggenheim Capital were also involved. No word if the two entities are still attached with the recent purchase.

So what makes Bonds Cay a must-see tourist spot and a promising lucrative investment? “It’s a beautiful island. It’s got some height to it, which means as you build up, you get better views,” says John Christie of H.G Christie, a Caribbean-based real estate brokerage firm. He also adds, “There is the ocean to the east of it so you’ve got reefs and views of turquoise water. On the other side of the island is limey, light turquoise water because it is shallow. It’s a great fishing area.”

Pink Floyd may not be reuniting anytime soon, except for that rare moment David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Roger Waters shared during Waters’ May 12 show in London for The Wall trek. But die-hard fans of the iconic band are in for a big treat when a series of reissues – from box sets to single disc specials – hits the stands over the next two years.

First off, a highly improved edition of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ is set to surface in the market on September 26 and is shaping to be a good material for collectors as it will be sold in various formats – a box set of six discs, a two-disc combo and of course for vintage keepers, in vinyl LP format.

November 8 is sure to be a blast for Floyd fans. A re-mastered and multi-format version of ‘Wish You Were Here’ will be dropped and will come in a two-disc set and a five-disc box set, alongside a single CD format of ‘A Foot in the Door: The Best of Pink Floyd’.

Lastly, on February 28, 2012, an extensive seven-disc set of ‘The Wall’ will be released. And for those looking for a more concise version of the acclaimed concept album, a two-disc re-mastered set will also be available on the same day.

Now that’s a sure-fire way of making themselves more endeared and unforgettable to their fans. Who knows? If everything pans out, maybe a reunion show or better yet, a new studio album might also be in the works.

The highly entertaining performance, which is reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s 1980-81 tour ‘The Wall,’ is set to play six concerts at London O2 Arena. These concerts are set for May 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, and 18. The tour will then move to the Manchester MEN Arena for dates on May 20 and May 21.

Waters stated, “I think it’s beginning to look now as if he’ll [Gilmour] do one gig. He’ll do ‘Comfortably Numb’ at one gig. It’s a big secret when.”

Sky News interviewed Waters and was told that the tour is probably going to be the final time he will do something this elaborate. The set features a 240 foot by 35 foot wall that gets destroyed during the performance.

Waters said, “Constructing something like this indoors – I’ll probably never do anything this big again, the technology of projection we’ve used in this show is breathtaking.”

He also said, “When we split up David and Nick [Mason, drummer] ended up with the name [of the band] and I ended up with ‘The Wall’ and everything to do with it and a few quid.”

In 2005, Pink Floyd got together for a short time for Live 8.

Mason indicated not too long ago that he wants the entire band to get together again for additional live performances.
