Posted by Janice Bryant On April - 24 - 2006

Long estranged co-founder of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, will be performing “Dark Side of the Moon,” Pink Floyd’s classic set, in full during a forthcoming North American tour.

An itinerary of 18 cities has been lined up by Waters. He will open in New Jersey on September 6 and conclude the tour with a Seattle appearance on October 12.

According to a press released issued by Columbia Records, the upcoming shows from Waters will consist of two sets along with encores and feature state of the art lighting, staging and sound.

The show’s first set will feature music from Waters’ entire career, including Pink Floyd selections and material from his solo set “Amused to Death.”

A full band and Waters will then perform Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” in the second set. The album after being released in 1973 stayed for a record 15 years on Billboard’s 200 album chart.

The touring band will feature guitarist Snowy White, vocalist/guitarists Andy Fairweather-Low and Dave Kilminster, keyboardist and vocalist Jon Carin, drummer Graham Broad, organist Harry Waters, saxophonist Ian Richie and vocalists PP Arnold, Katie Kissoon and Carol Kenyon.

Classic Pink Floyd band members included Waters along with David Gilmour, vocalist/guitarist, Richard Wright, keyboardist, and Nick Mason drummer. The last time the group performed together was at the Live 8 Benefit in 2005. It was the first time since 1981 that they had appeared together as Pink Floyd.

Roger Waters Explores Opera

Posted by Janice Bryant On July - 18 - 2005

Roger Waters, co-founder of Pink Floyd, is set to return to both original music as well as explore territory that was previously unmapped with the unveiling of “Ca Ira,” his new album, in September. The long anticipated set is an historical opera based on the French Revolution.

“Ca Ira” is the first attempt by Waters to compose an opera and represents many years of hard work for him. He first started to compose the opera in 1989 after being inspired by the French Revolution’s bicentennial.

The work is a collaboration between Waters and Etienne Roda-Gil, French songwriter, who wrote the piece’s original libretto. The French Revolution is portrayed from multiple perspectives, from Marie Antoinette, revolutionaries and the common people. The opera’s central metaphor and theatrical framing device is a circus.

Acclaimed international opera singers are featured on the recording, including Paul Groves, American tenor, and Bryn Terfel, Welsh bass baritone. The orchestration was done by Waters along with Rick Wentworth, co-producer. The first edition two disc set includes a booklet of 60 pages and “making of” DVD along with the musical CD.

Waters temporarily reunited in June with old Pink Floyd band mates to perform in London’s Hyde Part at the Live 8 benefit concert.

In 2002, Roger Waters, co-founder of the band Pink Floyd, will be bringing “In the Flesh” shows from his 1999-2000 tour of North America to other parts of the world.

The concerts will include his first appearances in the U.K. since his performances of “Radio K.A.O.S.” at Wembley Arena in London in 1987. According to information posted on the official website for Waters, they will also be his first solo shows in Europe since 1984.

The 1999 tour for Waters was the first full fledged trek for him in twelve years. The only major performance for Waters during the 1990s was in 1990 when he performed “The Wall” for over 350,000 people at the Berlin Wall’s former site after it had been recently destroyed.

The set lists for the “In the Flesh” North American tours include solo album and Pink Floyd material, as well as “Each Small Candle,” a recent song.

The touring band for Waters includes guitarists Doyle Bramhall II (also on vocals), Snowy White and Andy Fairweather-Low, drummer Graham Broad, keyboardists Andy Wallace and Jon Carin, saxophonist Norbert Stachel and vocalists PP Arnold, Susannah Melvoin and Katie Kissoon.

Waters has been hard at work on an opera entitled “Ca Ira” in addition to a new album that has a 2002 release date.

“Echoes-The Best of Pink Floyd,” a retrospective album, will be released by Capitol Records on November 6.
