Gilmour Rumors in Omaha Prove Unfounded

Posted by Dave Vondersaar On October - 28 - 2010

Last night in Omaha there weren’t any other Pink Floyd members except for Roger Waters, who squashed rumors that had begun yesterday afternoon of David Gilmour maybe showing up in the show as a clever reply to a coy remark made in the Rolling Stone.  The rumor was also denounced at Sony Music by a Pink Floyd publicist who denied that Waters and Gilmour were seen eating together on Monday in Minneapolis at the Bar La Grassa.  Is this true?  The only people it seems at this point who are trying to continue the rumors are ticket scalpers looking to cash in on the show tonight of Waters’ at the Excel Energy Center.

However, a die hard Floyd fan named Ken Griebell from New Jersey is also claiming he saw Waters and Gilmour at the Bar La Grassa together, and even claims he and Gilmour had a brief conversation.  Griebell was in town for business.  A few weeks ago he had been in Madison Square Garden and seen Waters’ “The Wall” show.  Griebell gave a very detailed description of what took place at La Grassa as well as personal information concerning why he was visiting Minneapolis, where he worked and other details that check out.  He said that outside of the La Grass he approached the Waters’ entourage to tell them how he enjoyed the show.  He only received a gruff reply from Waters.  However he also said that a man who spoke and looked just like Gilmour including his accent asked what he thought of the guys (the whole band).  Griebell answered positively and the guy who looked  like Gilmour replied, you have no taste then.  Yeah, that sounds like the same humor as Gilmour’s.

Speaking of guys that are funny the morning show crew at KQRS this morning took a call from a man who claims he worked at a hotel in St. Paul (The St. Paul Hotel).  He was emphatic that he saw Waters and Gilmour together there.

This could be a situation where people mistake a 60 some thing year old man in the Waters’ entourage to be Gilmour, who is average looking.  People wishing that he was really here.  Or it could be worst and be scalpers trying to fuel the rumors.  We won’t know for certain for a few hours.

Roger Waters Defends ‘The Wall’ from Anti-Semitic Critics

Posted by Dave Vondersaar On October - 5 - 2010

Roger Water is responding to accusations that “The Wall” stage show is anti-Semitic.

The Anti Defamation League last week claimed that there is imagery in the stage show that draws on stereotypes associated with Jews and money.

The claim in particular points out that when “Goodbye Blue Sky” is performed an animated projection displays airplanes dropping bombs that are shaped like the Jewish Stars of David that are then followed with dollar signs.  Various other corporate and religious symbols are depicted as well.

Waters is denying the claims.  He stated that Abraham Foxman, Anti Defamation League director, should come to show and watch before he comments publicly and passes judgment.

Waters in a statement posted on Rogers-Waters.com, his official website said, contrary to the assertions made by Mr. Foxman there aren’t any hidden meanings in terms of the juxtaposition or order of the symbols.

The point I made with that song is the bombardment we all are subject to by all of the conflicting economic, political and religious ideologies that encourage us all to turn against each other.  I mourn this loss of life.

Waters added if there was a political message to “The Wall” show it was to attempt to shed light on our condition as well as look for new ways for encouraging understanding and peace, especially for the Middle East.

Currently Roger Waters is in the US with his “The Wall” tour.  He will be bringing his show to Ireland and the UK in May-June, 2011.
